SUPERFOODS AS MEDICINE

'Tis the season of runny noses and scratchy throats. This week, we share our favorite superfoods for optimal health for the holidays -- cold and flu, be gone! Inspired by The Chopra Center's informative article featuring 7 superfoods most effective for seasonal sickness prevention, we've compiled our own list of favorites. See below:

  1. Ginger. A great ingredient to take at the onset of a cold because it works to break down mucous and helps with congestion. Phytochemicals found in ginger also help fight viruses. It is most effective when taken as a food or tea.
  2. Medicinal mushrooms. Not only do mushrooms strengthen the immune system, but they also fight off toxins, viruses, and bacteria. Read more about the amazing benefits of medicinal mushrooms here. Basically, we love them and you will too, once you learn about their many health benefits!
  3. Cacao. Nourishing, heart-opening, and healing, it's no surprise that cacao is by far our favorite superfood. But did you know that when combined with other superfoods, cacao can become even more potent? A little goes a long way with this ingredient.
